What is an ATA
An ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) is needed to connect traditional analog telephones to modern digital networks, such as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) systems. Here’s why it’s essential:
VoIP services operate over the internet, which uses digital signals.
The ATA acts as a bridge, converting the analog signals from your phone into digital data that can be transmitted over the internet, and vice versa.
This makes it a more affordable solution for businesses and homes transitioning to internet-based communication.
The ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) is a compact black device that looks similar to this:
Connecting the ATA is straightforward—simply attach three cables to the designated ports as outlined below:
Blue Port (Left, marked with a globe symbol):
• This port is for the internet.
• Connect it to your router using a standard Ethernet cable
Black Port (Middle, marked with a power symbol):
• This port provides power to the device.
• Use the included power cable (found in the white box with the ATA) and plug it into a standard power outlet.
Green Port (Right, marked with a phone symbol):
• This port is for your phone line.
• Connect your physical landline to this port. If the connector doesn’t fit, use the white adapter included in the box to accommodate older handsets.
Once all three cables are securely connected and the device is powered on, your ATA will be ready for use!
Important Note:
If you are waiting for a number port to transfer your existing phone number to Pine Media, the ATA will only start routing calls from your existing number once the porting process is complete.
